Origins of Omega
The Journey
Frustration, curiosity and determination… a combination of these has always made me look for a better way.
What if there was a way to help people who are stuck, those that see the waste, feel the tension often and feel helpless. What if they made the workplace improvements themselves, transformed their work, made it a happier place and over delivered on the business expectations?
From these seeds of thought, fuelled by the frustration of first hand experience in organisations who tried hard, had the passion but continued to miss their expectations and objectives the path to a better way began to form. My experience and curiosity led to the development of our methodology, a simple improvement model that is cost effective, adds significant value and engages people – and it works.
I started out with a mission to share, help and touch as many people with my improvement technique as possible. Initially I had varying degrees of success but ultimately a career of learning has refined the approach into a proven practice.
The Omega Operations Consulting company was born.
Omega – because it was the first watch to the moon, official Olympic timekeeper, synonymous with quality and accuracy, works under extreme pressure and stress, last letter of the Greek alphabet, the last improvement approach you will need
Operations – this is about the operations in a business, it is about enabling the people doing the real work, the operations in the business that will deliver sustainable results
Consultants – because we are the true trusted advisors to our clients. Our passion and our values drive us to build capability, capacity and confidence in people so that they can implement and sustain the solutions themselves.
Initially I ran the improvement programs for clients by myself, I realised that there was not enough of me to go around, there was only so many improvement programs for clients that I could run. I added support and had consultants working with me, we got more done and covered more programs.
Then another hurdle, same hurdle but bigger, still not enough to go around. Then we added additional support mechanisms, then the next hurdle which leads us to Omega now having Principal Consultants leading improvement programs, Lead Consultants delivering the programs all supported by an improvement program tool set, way of working and supported with robust internal consultant development.
The clients appreciate they now get more quality and value, they get more Omega but in a different way and we help more people within the heart of businesses.
